Our First Home!

Becca and I closed on our first home today! We started this journey middle of last year and it’s been a great experience, pursuing a new construction townhouse as our first. After over 6 years, we’re excited to plant some roots here in Raleigh, and especially getting to do so close to the heart of the city that we’ve come to call our own. I want to take special note to thank some key people who made this possible for us.

Thank you to Sandy Roberts Realty, Sandy our realtor (and his coordinator Terri Robinson) who have been pivotal in finding the right place for us and making sure we were always equipped with the insight to make the right decisions and calls throughout the process. It was an added bonus that Sandy happens to be one of my closest friends, and it’s been a privilege to know him since when we were first exploring moving to Raleigh. He knows that I can be exacting, and that I would hold him to the high standard I would hold myself as a working professional. He has done this and gone above and beyond! Becca and I could not have asked for anyone else to be our buyer’s representative and subject matter expert on the market throughout this process.

Thank you to the KB Homes team at Liberty Station.

I am impressed and inspired by the hard work put in by our KB Homes building project manager Duane Morrow. He has been excellent in communication and follow through on any and all items throughout the building process. We truly felt that he was building our house like he would for his own family, in how meticulous he was in ensuring all the work was being done to a high bar of quality and reliability. I hope KB Homes will appreciate the major asset they have in him!

Next, we’re thankful for Mary Ann Raimondi, our KBHS Home Loans mortgage loan officer who walked Becca and I patiently throughout the home buying process and bore all my questions as I sought to understand for myself all the details and figures I was given. She truly has a heart of a teacher, and I always value that in someone who I get to work with. It was a pleasure to finally meet her in person today at closing and thank her in person!

We wanted to also give a shout out to Kuniki Tabb, the KB Homes salesperson we worked with to first learn about the housing development and the options available to us there. She was able to answer all of our questions, and communicated to us in a way throughout the process with building updates that respected our time, energy and agency to look at different housing options. This approach made it very easy to work with her and feel like we were getting honest and reliable information.

Outside of the above folks, I want to thank a few more people. Thank you to Julie Brown at KBHS Home Loans for making the underwriting process such a breeze. Thanks to the other lenders we did not go with but still gave us great honest insight: Jen Anderson at Guaranteed Rate, Randi Carter at Navy Federal, and Pat Price at Movement Mortgage. If it weren’t for the unique incentives KBHS were able to offer, each of them would have been great alternatives to work with.

There are more folks here than the above that indirectly have cared for us, like our families from out of town, old and new friends locally, and the community from a new local church that we started to explore in this season. But y’all know who you are – and thank you so much for being there with us along the way.
